Special Delivery - The joys (and tears) of sending and receiving snail mail

A few weeks ago I sold an original painting to a customer in Norman, Oklahoma. I loved that I was shipping my piece to a city with the same name as my favorite furry feline. What I did not love was soon after reading about Norman, Oklahoma, and the terrible storm system that tore through the area producing massive tornadoes.

Days later I received the nicest message from the gal that bought my painting. After enduring a hellacious day in a storm shelter she was able to come out, safe and sound, and open the package containing my painting. She said it was something beautiful at the end of a hectic day. I have since made a donation to help aid in the recovery and have to admit I was quite humbled by her words.

Unfortunately that didn’t stop me from having a near meltdown at the post office this past weekend. I’ve been trying for eons to get a parcel that was “undeliverable” back in April. YES! APRIL! I don’t really want to rant on the post office. Having spoken with at least seven of their nice employees over the last thirty days I can honestly say that they seem to be as frustrated as I am - maybe not about my package specifically but by others things at work. So, sorry I freaked out this weekend postal workers but please, pretty please, find my lost item.

And you, fine reader, donate to a helpful cause if you can. Our friends and neighbors would do the same for us.

And speaking of neighbors…

I don’t know how many of you out there work near a window that looks out across the street of a tree-lined beautiful residential area. Sometimes I daydream, spy on the neighbors, watch birds and squirrels, etc. Today one said neighbor knocked on the door and asked me to keep an eye out for a package that he was going to have the delivery people delivery to us in case he wasn’t home; never mind that he seems to have a zillion roommates and various other neighbors.

Almost four years at work and finally, today, I meet the cute guy across the street.
