Haircut 100

There is one certainty in my life. I will never go bald, ever. My hair needs a fan club. People like it much more than they like me, which is fine. I can handle that. What I don’t handle well are bad haircuts. Usually I take things into my own hands and cut it myself but every now and then I think, “But my hair will look soooo amazing if I have a professional do it.” Wrong.

So last weekend I went to the Aveda School. Plenty of people have made it out of there alive and beautiful. I’m alive but after the damage was done only my mother would still consider me beautiful. To give you an idea of how goofy my hair looked I’ll simply note that my friends and coworkers wouldn’t even fake a compliment. They all simply said, “Yeah, I like your hair better when you cut it”.

Naturally, my vainness prevented me from leaving the house, except for work of course. What is a sad lady with a horrible haircut to do? She should sew of course! I’ve been sewing like a fiend this week. I made this pillow for my friend Paige’s birthday. Happy Birthday Paige!





I started more pillows for my friend Koren who only likes red, black and white.

And I finally started a new quilt for my mom. I’ll give you one guess as to what her favorite color is.


And if all else fails with a bad haircut, fix it yourself and leave the house. I did just that this afternoon and ventured to William Temple House again. Much to my dismay, a group of “older” ladies had convened around the fabric and craft section.

But with my new found confidence as the result of fixing my hair I nudged in and took over the “scrap bin”. You see, what these ladies didn’t realize is that, sure there’s a yard bin of fabric –but it’s crap! Go for the samples in the scrap bin. Look what I got today:

This massive king sized sham will become an apron.

These fabrics are from Italy, Peru and France. I got them all (plus at least ten others I didn’t photograph) for $3.

Time to sleep for tomorrow I must sew. Fabric has become my new paint.
